When you write a post and you do not select a category for that particular post, then the post comes under the default category. WordPress by default has a category called “Uncategorized” and this is set as default category. Here you see the image below where the default category is Tips and if I do not select a category for a post, it will go to the Tips category

If you would like to change this default category, just to the Writing Settings page and set it there as shown in the image below

You cannot delete the default category. It is advised to set your default category rather than leaving it as “Uncategorized”.
