Twitter is a very popular tool used by millions and more important by important and influential personalities. Even though there are millions of registered users, how many do visit the twitter website? I am sure not even a very small portion of the twitter users who use the web interface (Twitter.com) to send new tweets or re-tweet or any of the functionalities.
Twitter comes with a great API feature which has helped developers to write great twitter applications and most of the twitter users uses one or the other application to use this service. I very rarely login to the twitter website to send a tweet or read what others are tweeting about. There are many applications which are not free, but the developer or the user of the application does not need to pay anything to twitter.
Now my thoughts, tweeter is not making any money. How is twitter going to make money to run this service. Twitter could start some services which could be a paid service or charge users for using the API keys or license.
Twitter has come up with the tweet / re-tweet button which can be used by publishers. Now I saw a new feature where twitter is suggesting people whom we could follow. I had never seen this before. I am not sure if my thoughts are going right that is Twitter trying to get more users to use the Twitter website. Is twitter thinking of any mode or monetizing its services by keeping the users on the Twitter website?
No idea, but we can know soon if that is the intention. Anyway twitter cannot just on like this for too long. It needs to adapt some monetizing system to keep this service running.
